Peer Review Course

Almost Painless Publishing
22 August
13:00 to 17:00
Southampton University Blue Rooms

This half day course will provide an introduction to the peer review process used by IOP Publishing. It is aimed at student and post docs very early in their research careers that may have submitted open or two papers for publication and who have little or no experience of refereeing papers themselves.

We will look at what makes a good paper and how to avoid some of the most common pitfalls, then we will discuss reviewing a paper and what makes a useful review. Finally if time, we will discuss the ethics and politics of the peer review system.

By the end of the course you should feel more confident about preparing a manuscript for peer review and also be volunteering to review more manuscript confident in your skills to contribute to the peer review process.

This course will cost £10 for Photon10 participants and £50 for those not attending Photon10. Registration for the course is available via the online registration form when you register for the conference
